Never Back is now a proud sponsor of the Sandra Grayson Memorial Golf Outing. We sat down with John Grayson, one of the creators of the outing to learn more about this beloved Chicago charity event. Stay tuned for the release of our limited-edition “Sandra” belt with a portion of each sale going to support the SGGO, coming soon.

1) What is the Sandra Grayson Golf Outing?

The Sandra Grayson Memorial Golf Outing is a charity golf outing that raises money to donate to various charities.

2) How did you get involved?

I started it with help from my two buddies Matt Davis and Michael Witort. We were inspired by a group of friends that were doing the Susan G. Komen Three-Day Walk. They called themselves the "Babes for Boobs." They were working together to fight back against cancer. After my mother passed away from cancer, I wanted to do something to fight back as well. I enlisted my sister Jessica, Matt, Mike and the Babes and we were off and running!

3) How does the donation aspect of the outing work?

We raise money through the outing and have donated to several different cancer charities (Susan G. Komen, Jimmy V Foundation, St. Jude's, Bright Pink) and beyond throughout the years. Last year we made our first non-cancer donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, after a family member of one of our committee members passed away. We like to spread the love and contribute to a variety of different charities.

4) Why did you feel the need to give back to these breast cancer charities?

My mom passed away from cancer in October of 2010. After taking some time, I realized I wanted to fight back. My mom was always a fighter and I felt like I wasn't doing enough sitting on my hands and just being sad that she had passed. With help from friends, family, and the many ladies of "Babes for Boobs" the outing was born!

5) How long have you been hosting this event?

This is our fifth year hosting the golf outing. I wasn't sure if it would make it past year ONE, but people keep coming back. Last year we donated more than $15,000 to various charities. The support never ceases to amaze me.

6) What would your mom say about your charitable efforts if she was here today?

That's a good question. My mom was known for hosting great parties, and I think our outing has been a great big party over the few years. She was also a fabulous cook, and everyone compliments me on the food every year, so she'd be happy with that too. Knowing my mother as I did, I'm sure she'd have her constructive criticism though.

7) How did these limited-edition Never Back belts come to life?

I was scrolling through Instagram one day and came across the Never Back Belts Instagram account (@never_back_belts) and I shot a message over to them. I thought it'd be cool to have one of their creative belts featured at our outing. Next thing I knew, we were developing a custom belt design that I plan to wear at this year’s outing.

8) What can those who are based in the Chicagoland area do to get involved? What about people who don't live in Chicago?

If you will be in Chicago, come golf! Limited tickets are still available. We have golfers from all different golf levels, so don't be shy if you want to try golfing. Or, if you're not a golfer, feel free to just come to dinner. We are always complimented on our buffet-style food and there is a raffle with great prizes!

For those of you that don't live in the Chicagoland area, there is a way to donate money through our website. You can find us at http://www.sandragraysongolf.com, on Twitter @SGraysonGolf, or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/SGraysonGolf.
